Our story
The Selah is a nine-suite house hotel on the Bo-Kaap slope, a little apart from the city below. The pitched roof, the deep window reveals and the rhythm of the street remain. Inside, the spaces have been opened so that a stay here feels unhurried and personal.
Nine suites, a spa, a lounge pool, a rooftop bar with the city all the way around it, and a single open ground floor for arrival, salon and bar. Nothing was done for the sake of it.
Stay
Nine rooms in three sizes. Every one has its own bathroom in honed travertine, warm floors and a view of either the mountain, the harbour or the courtyard.
The largest rooms in the house, each with a bath in the room and a separate walk-in shower.
Opened to the ridge under the original roof. A stone bath at the window, a full travertine bathroom and Signal Hill for a headboard.
Gold-framed doors fold back to a walled terrace with an outdoor shower and an olive tree. Inside, a deep tub behind a plaster screen.
Glazed on two sides above the harbour, with a sitting area, a freestanding bath at the window and a fluted-glass shower room.

North-facing and bright until midday. An oak wardrobe wall, a desk at the window and a travertine ensuite with a walk-in shower.

Eat
An open counter and tables for guests and visitors, a menu built around the morning market, and four hundred Cape labels a floor below. Breakfast runs until eleven.

Spa
The lower level is open to day visitors as well as guests. A treatment room, a cedar sauna, a cold plunge, and a lounge pool built for long afternoons rather than laps.
A wide leisure pool with a shallow shelf to sit in, travertine deck, oak-screened shade and the mountain in front of you. Drinks come to the lounger.
One room, one therapist, booked by the hour. Warm stone, clay walls and treatments built around your day.
Cedar heat, then three steps down into a cold plunge, with the mountain air on the way back up.

Rooftop
The terrace on top of the house turns the full 360 degrees: Table Mountain, Lion's Head, the city bowl and the harbour. Open to guests and visitors for sundowners, seven days.

The house
Entrance hall, salon, library bar and arrival court read as a single room, so you are never held at a counter on the way through.

Walk-through
From the street gate to the upper terrace, a short silent film of how a stay unfolds.
The fascia
The footprint and roof stay as they were. The surface is new: chalk-white plaster, brushed gold and full-height glazing that brings the bay inside.
Recessed portico, gold fin screen, cantilevered canopy and a curved boundary wall with recessed SELAH lettering.
The front door sits in a deep chalk-white reveal, calm and unmarked from the street.
Vertical gold fins shade the upper windows and glow after dark.
A thin gold canopy reaches over the entry, marking the drop-off and sheltering the arrival.
Floor-to-ceiling glass turns the bay view into the wall.
A sculpted white wall folds around the forecourt with SELAH set in gold.
Cables buried, pavement re-laid and planting softens the kerb.

A house this size can run like a private home. The desk is staffed around the clock, the cars belong to the house, and a doctor comes to the room.
The house fleet comes with the room, driven by people who know the peninsula and are moving before you have collected your bags.
A City Bowl practice holds a standing arrangement with the house, so care comes to the suite instead of a waiting room.
There is always someone in the building to answer a door, a phone or a question at three in the morning.
One team covers the house day and night, and the person who takes your first call sees the request through to the end.
